SofaBox is a game launcher made by OTB Vision ("we"). This policy explains what SofaBox does with your information on Windows and Android.

Short version: SofaBox has no accounts, no ads and no analytics. Your game library and settings are stored only on your device, and we never receive them.

Information we collect

None. SofaBox does not collect, store on our servers, sell or share any personal information. Your library (games, emulator settings, collections), images you add, your profile name and picture, and all settings are saved only on your device. You can export or delete them at any time from SofaBox's settings, and uninstalling SofaBox removes them.

When SofaBox connects to the internet

SofaBox only connects to the internet to:

download cover art and backgrounds from libretro-thumbnails and the Steam store's image servers;
search and download artwork from SteamGridDB, only if you enter your own SteamGridDB API key (the key is stored only on your device);
open web pages and links that you add to your library;
download ad-blocking filter lists about once a week from uBlock Origin (ublockorigin.github.io), EasyList (easylist.to) and Peter Lowe's list (pgl.yoyo.org), if Block ads is on. The lists are used only on your device to block ad and tracker servers in web pages opened in SofaBox.

These services receive standard web requests, such as your IP address and the image or page being requested, and handle them under their own privacy policies.

Android: accessibility service

The "SofaBox Home button" accessibility service is optional and off until you turn it on. Its purpose is to let you control your phone with a game controller instead of the touchscreen, which helps if touch is hard for you or when you play from the couch on a TV or Samsung DeX. Before you turn it on, SofaBox shows you what it does and asks you to agree. When on, it is used only to:

detect your controller's Home button (or Select + Start) so you can return to SofaBox from a game;
open SofaBox when you connect a TV or start Samsung DeX;
on Samsung DeX, press a window's "Full screen" button so SofaBox and your games fill the screen;
carry out the controller button mappings you choose and, in mouse mode, move a pointer and tap where you point;
replay a tap macro you recorded for a controller button (while you record, SofaBox shows a see-through layer and saves only where and when you tap on it);
when you switch or quit games, open the previous game's App info page in Android Settings and press its Force stop button;
check which screen an emulator is showing, so SofaBox can resume your game instead of restarting it.

SofaBox ignores keyboard typing and does not record, store or send anything you see on screen. It only looks at controller button presses, the Force stop button in the Settings app, the DeX "Full screen" button, and which screen an app is showing — and only for the actions above. Nothing leaves your device.

Android: other permissions

Installed apps: SofaBox lists your installed apps so you can add them as games. This list stays on your device.
Files and folders: SofaBox only accesses files and folders you choose (for example ROMs and images).

Windows

On Windows, SofaBox reads your Steam and Epic Games library files only when you choose to import them, and watches whether the games it started are still running so it can show, resume and close them. This information stays on your PC.

Purchases

SofaBox Pro is sold through Google Play (Android) and the Microsoft Store (Windows). The store handles the payment; SofaBox never sees your payment details and keeps no list of buyers. On start, SofaBox asks the store whether your account owns Pro and remembers the answer only on your device.

Creator links: some video creators share a Google Play link to SofaBox, and we pay them a small amount for each Pro purchase that comes from their link. If you install SofaBox from such a link, SofaBox reads the link once (through Google Play's install referrer) and keeps only that creator's name on your device. If you then buy Pro, the purchase is labelled with the creator's name so we can count their sales. Nothing about you is added; installs from any other link or from Google Play itself get no label.

Children

SofaBox does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13.
